I found the Shrike in the swamp proper ~70 yards North of the entrance road about halfway between the bridge (the highpoint in the road) and the beginning of the entrance road. It was perched on a snag With binoculars, I watched the bird for about a minute before it temporarily disappeared (probably because of the group of crows that came by). At that time I noticed it's disproportionately large head (compared w/ slender body) and the mask. It reappeared on a different nearby snag where I got great views with my scope for 3-4 minutes. I noted the long bill and narrow mask which did not extend over the bill (the area over the bill actually appeared whitish). It showed a greyish tinge on the breast. I am assuming that this is the same bird that Ray Kiddy found one week ago (Sat. 12/9) that I searched unsuccessfully for on Monday 12/10. I agree with Ray that the bird was an Adult Northern Shrike. ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
