Norm has done the regional birders a tremendous service for many years. I used to subscribe to the Osprey Nest before the days of widespread Internet usage. He supplies this service gratis to us users, but at considerable expense monetarily and tremendous expense in terms of time and effort. Yes, I would be upset if all my hard labors were depreciated as some posts seem to do. I know on-line responses seem harsher than responses in person, so the posts probably were not intended to offend Norm, but I fully understand Norm's feeling put upon. I belong to several list-serves, and certainly am not inundated with porn spam. I doubt I get one per week. I do get other spam all too frequently, but I doubt that has anything to do with the listserver. I am no expert at internet security, but I think that the only way not to be spammed is, as was noted, to unplug oneself from the internet. It is because of the difficulty in avoiding viruses and spam that the large prevention industry exists, and as we all know, in spite of all of this, we still get viruses and spam. So to blame the listserver is in my view, a real disservice to a person who has and is contributing so much to the enjoyment of our birding. So, as I have said many times in the past, THANK YOU NORM, FOR ALL OF YOUR WORK, It is really appreciated.
