GMRS do not "interfere" with FRS as I understand. It is an older radio service that shares the first 7 or 8 frequencies with the new FRS. GMRS and FRS can be compatible on these lower channels (although some radios will not work well with each other depending on design). GMRS requires an FCC license, but has the option of more power and external antennas which can increase range significantly over FRS. For those of you in remote places, or groups covering large areas (couple of miles distant) they may be a good choice.
