The models I have read about all underperformed a good FRS radio as far as power and quality. You will need to go to a reliable dealer if interested in GMRS. As far as drowning out with a higher powered radio, that will happen even among FRS radios. A closer person with a slightly higher powered FRS will drown out your buddy at the edge of the reception. Familiarity with radio etiquette is the only way to prevent that. Some higher powered radios may bleed over onto another frequency, like when a big truck goes by your house and you get to hear what is being said on the CB through your television. J.
