Best bird was a female Common Yellowthroat at the very dry Anacostia Wetlands. A female Blue-winged Teal was still at the Chain Bridge pond (but may not be for much longer given how quickly the pond is freezing over). Other lingering birds include 4 Wood Ducks (2 at Chain Bridge and 2 at Roosevelt Island) and several Double-crested Cormorants (Potomac River viewed from Alexandria and Daingerfield Island). Other birds seen: Chain Bridge -- Red-shouldered Hawk, Swamp Sparrows, Pileated Woodpecker, Belted Kingfisher, many Ring-billed Gulls flying up the river. Fletcher's Boathouse -- Winter Wren and lots of robins. Georgetown Reservoir -- Yellow-bellied Sapsucker + the usuals. Roosevelt Island -- Fox Sparrow, 2 Winter Wrens, Red-winged Blackbirds, Killdeer, coots. Potomac River from Alexandria -- Bald Eagle (adult). National Airport -- Ring-necked Ducks, American Black Duck, Pied-billed Grebes, coots. Anacostia Park -- Bufflehead, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Field Sparrows.
