Around lunchtime on Friday, Dec. 28, I was watching an adult Red-tailed Hawk head west when an adult Peregrine Falcon, lower and closer, started circling. A bit later a large Peregrine landed near the corner of a building (facing me), soon walking to the corner to take off back to the north away from me. Also at lunchtime I saw what was probably an adult Bald Eagle high over Wisconsin Avenue, heading north. On Saturday, Dec. 29, around 2:30 pm, at the corner of Woodmont and Hampden in downtown Bethesda, I came across a dozen American Robins and more Cedar Waxwings busily eating red berries in a bare tree. Some of the birds were motionless, as if they had eaten too many holiday treats. One of the robins was singing; a couple of the waxwings were showing off bright yellow bellies which were quite gorgeous. An hour later just west of 16th Street in Silver Spring I spied a Peregrine Falcon heading south.
