We saw two Fox Sparrows, three Hooded Mergansers (flying down the Anacostia River), hundreds of Canada Geese, an Red-tailed Hawk, an adult Sharp-shinned Hawk, some American Goldfinches, and a Savannah Sparrow. At Anacostia Park near the Pennsylvania Avenue bridge we found two Laughing Gulls (one seemed to be sick and the other was missing the primaries in the right wing), three Bonaparte's Gulls, and the three common larger species of gulls. Further downriver, opposite the destroyer (?DE-933) was a group of the larger gulls and an immature Double-crested Cormorant, but still no Lesser Black-backed Gull. Over the intersection of Connecticut and Nebraska (don't worry, I was in a parking lot) flew 42 Tundra Swans, heading south around mid-day.
