The Redheads were between National Airport and Washington Sailing Marina, near the hiker-biker trail. At last, a new DC duck! The day started with another personal DC first, a Lesser Black-backed Gull at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. I was about 0 for 10 when I looked for this bird. This one just flew into the marsh area when I wasn't expecting it. The marsh was mostly frozen over, and the ponds were completely frozen. Another interesting find was 3 male Green-winged Teals on the Anacostia River along the back of Kenilworth Park. Other sightings of the 58 total species seen: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens -- Fox Sparrow, 2 Gray Catbirds, Hairy Woodpecker, Red-shouldered Hawk. Kenilworth Park -- Hooded Merganser, Red-tailed Hawk, Fox Sparrow, Savannah Sparrow, Ruby-crowned Kinglet. National Arboretum -- Sharp-shinned Hawk, Pileated Woodpecker, Yellow- bellied Sapsucker, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Anacostia Park -- Red-shouldered Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, Common Yellowthroat. Hains Point -- Double-crested Cormorant. Potomac River from Washington Sailing Marina -- Bufflehead.
