We've only had two Pileateds on our deck this spring and summer, but I haven't seen or heard them since the fall. Since we live right off the C & O Canal in Glen Echo, we're used to seeing or hearing several of them around (on one walk on the nearby canal path, I saw or heard 7 in a short period of time in not a very large area). While we've been joined at one time or another by Red-bellieds, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers and N. Flickers in our backyard, still haven't seen a Hairy or a Red-headed, though. Continued good birding!
