I just returned from a trip to the Netherlands, and I got a little birdin= g in! I just wanted to tell someone who would appreciate it! 3 species = of swan, 7 species of goose, 22 species of waterfowl overall! BTW, does = anyone know if the AOU split Common from Green-Winged Teal? If so, what = is the new specific name for Green-Winged? Also, what is the latest on t= he Bean Goose debate (rossicus (serrirostris) vs. fabalis), Brant (hrota = vs. nigricans), and Bewick's vs. Tundra Swans? I was also terribly excit= ed to finally see a "real" House Sparrow, European Starling, and Mute Swa= n! Call me crazy. Lastly, Common Gull and Mew Gull are not the same spe= cies. At least to an untravelled East Coaster. The only other explanati= on is that all gulls are the same species. My list follows: 12/28/01 Birded w/ Marc Kuiper and a benedictine father from Quebec who = lives and teaches in Rome, named Herve. Very windy and wet, with poor li= ght for most of the day.
