We wanted to bird = Duck Puddle Road to locate Snow Buntings, Eastern Neck NWR for the = Western King bird, and Route 18 for the Western Grebe.=20 We saw no Snow Buntings on Duck Puddle Road. However, this doesn't = mean that there were none as there is a lot of area to look over. We = did see lots of Horned Larks at the Southern end near the cemetery. We followed Pete Webbs directions in looking for the Western = Kingbird. We arrived at the Ingleside area and pulled into the gate, = looked at Pete's tree and no bird. However, we noticed what we thought = were two Blue Jays flying across the field and landing in the tree to = the right of the gate when facing it. A quick look through binoculars = quickly turned a blue Jay into a Western Kingbird. We had great looks = before it flew off. We then birded through Eastern Neck. As we turned = into the Refuge HQ, a mature Bald Eagle flew over head. At the HQ, we = asked the naturalist about the Western Kingbird and she said that it was = first sighted over a month ago. As we left, we again stopped at the = Ingleside sign and on the wire above it was the Kingbird. It flew down = to the sign and perched on it . It would fly a short distance = flycatcher style and then back the sign. It did this several times. We = watched the bird as long as we wanted. It is a beautiful bird. Saw = lots of Tundra Swans, Black and Mallard Ducks. The Chester River at = Bogle's Warf was devoid of birds. =20 Driving south, we stopped off at Chesapeake Farms, formally = Remington Farms, and got our year's White-crowned Sparrow. Then on to = route 18 and to Horsehead and a try for the Western Grebe. We stopped = at the Visitors' Center to inquire about the bird and no one was there. = We were a bit tired at this point and decided to leave the Western = Grebes for another day. =20 The Western Kingbird and White-crowned Sparrows were really nice as = was the Bald Eagle.
