County I visited several sites in southern Prince George's County before the rain moved through. Before dawn, I went to Mount Calvert on the Patuxent to see if I could see or hear any owls. I heard one Great Horned Owl calling several times. Other birds of note included 3 Northern Harriers (1 male) hunting low over the marsh as it got light. One of the females flew low directly overhead. Also present were an adult Bald Eagle (in a tree by the mansion), 2 Kingfishers, 2 Killdeer, 12 Common Mergansers, many Geese, some Mallards, many White Throated Sparrows and Red Winged Blackbirds. I than visited Wharf Road on the Potomac. Most of the ducks were on the far side of Piscataway Creek, but I did see two more Bald Eagles (1 adult, 1 immature) and 1 Tundra Swan. I than traveled around the creek to some National Park Service land east of the Fort Washington Marina where I could get a closer look at the ducks. I counted 18 Buffleheads, 33 Canvasback, 27 Lesser Scaup, 2 Greater Scaup, 2 Redheads, 1 Hooded Mergansers, and 8 Common Mergansers.
