They were not banded, a family party -- certainly they were wild birds! Well, they were not. It was eventually revealed that the entire group were from a waterfowl collector in, as I recall, the Maritimes (but I may be wrong on this). For a number of years, reports came in on birds which apparently were from this little band of escapees. Geese live a long time, it may be that the birds in the northeast are some of the original group. Which goes to show why getting accepted records of waterfowl is so fraught with difficulty. Oh, by the way, Barry and I had to leave for our plane before seeing the birds in Masachusetts. Paul (if you are reading this) -- did you eventually catch up with them or not? I have forgotten... (Which doesn't mean thst we are not going to go look for the local Barnacle, as soon as we get over our nasty post-holiday colds. Hey, you never know...)
