Balestri" Subject: House Finch and other questions Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit I have done the Cornell Project Feederwatch for several years and watched the House Finches in my yard dwindle to almost nothing 2 years ago due to mycoplasmal conjunctivitis. Now they seem to have rebounded to their former numbers (if not higher). I also noticed that there is a reverse trend with Dark-eyed Juncos in my yard, i.e., very high a couple of years ago, but not very many this year. Am I seeing displacement or just the vagaries of wandering bird populations? Interesting note to the discussion on the Sunday Hunting issue -- there were 2 USFW guys on NPR several weeks ago discussing MD, VA, and DC wildlife management issues. The hunting issue came up and one of them commented that he would not like to see hunting on any Sunday; he liked being able to take his family out without having to worry about irresponsible hunters (and living in a hunting area I know there are a few out there--I offer as proof, bullet holes in a neighbor's house). -- Marcia E.
