Actually we started by checking the ponds around Millsboro, DE on the way to OC. We found a Black Swan on Millsboro Pond. On to OC, the inlet was very disappointing. One of the slowest visits I have ever made there. The sum total of ducks was 5 Surf Scoter, 5 Black Duck and 1 RB Merg. Skimmer Island had Brant, 1 Lesser Black Back, Sanderling, Dunlin, Bl Bellied Plover and Gr Yellow. While observing from the Rt 50 bridge, a single Pipit flew in and landed on the bulkhead. Also 5 Louisiana Heron. West Ocean City Pond was much more interesting with 14 species of waterfowl, but no great finds. There are better numbers of puddle ducks than usually winter there b/c the water level is still below normal. Following Golf Course Rd out to the bay, I pulled one male Common Goldeneye from the groups of RB Merg and Oldsquaw. Moving on south, our best find was a female Common Merg at the parking lot at Public Landing. At Vaughn, we encountered hunters, so we decided to pass on walking away from the car. After some exploring that yielded nothing, we ended the day at Deal Island. Found 2 Peregrines sitting on a tower, looking west from the boat ramp that is a right turn before you get to Riley Roberts. On Riley Roberts, we had more Louisiana Heron, Great Egret and Black-Crowned Night Heron, but no Glossy Ibis or Snowy Egret. An endless stream of Fish Crows flew west for most of the time we were there.
