It was sent to my home email and I did not recognize the source so I deleted. What a relief - it was exactly as this warning email suggests. MEDINA, Ohio January 28, 2002 - Central Command, a leading provider of PC anti-virus software and computer security services, announces the discovery of Worm/MyParty. This new Internet worm uniquely disguises itself as a website link to www.myparty.yahoo.com to trick e-mail recipients into opening the attached file. Brief details: Name: Worm/MyParty Aliases: W32.Myparty@mm Type: Internet worm In the Wild: Yes Risk: Medium Description: Worm/MyParty is a mass mailing Internet worm that is spreading through e-mail. It uses its own special SMTP routine to send unsolicited email messages to those addresses obtained from a search within the Windows address book. The attachment disguises itself as a website. The worm spreads via e-mail, and an infected message appears as follows: Subject: new photos from my party! Body: Hello! My party... It was absolutely amazing! I have attached my web page with new photos! If you can please make color prints of my photos. Thanks! Attachment: www.myparty.yahoo.com "We have reports of this virus infecting people in over 47 different countries and expect the virus infection reports to rise throughout the day because of people's natural curiosity," said Steven Sundermeier, product manager at Central Command, Inc. "The social engineering of this attachment might allow this one to take off as more people get into the office this morning." -----Original Message----- From: Lovelace, Glen [mailto:glovelace@MAIL.DOT.STATE.DE.US] Sent: Monday, January 28, 2002 10:42 AM To: MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM Subject: [MDOSPREY] Oak Grove area 1/27 Hello All, The Sunday morning tour of the home area was a bit odd yesterday morning. In general, it was very quiet. Just not much bird noise. Some common species were in very low numbers - 0 Titmice, 0 Kinglets, 1 Red-Belly, 1 Downy, 2-3 White-Throats. Yet, I wound up with 37 species, a decent January total. To do that I came up with some good birds - 2 Palm Warbler (1st Jan record and 2nd winter record for my homelist); 1 Swamp Sp (1st Jan record - at least one decided to winter in the grasses in cutoff woods); Pileated Wood (2nd yard record, distinct from the larger 1 mile circle). Plus 1 adult Bald Eagle, 1 male Harrier and the year's first Ring-Billed Gull and first Pigeon! Woohoo :) Good Birding, Glen Lovelace III Seaford, DE ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
