MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii This is strange behavior for a raccoon as they are not normally active during the day. It would best to avoid any interaction with raccoon out during daylight hours because of the problem with rabies in this area. Birds & Birding 01/29/02 03:40 PM Please respond to Maryland Birds & Birding There was lots of activity at the environmental area. Mammals were about too, chipmunk, groundhog, and two raccoons. One of which was in heat I think. She came up the trail and stopped ten feet from me and started making several odd sounds. I just stood there in disbelief. Then she started walking towards and said "no" and swung my arm as if to say "away". She stopped and started at me again, then the male showed up about then, and I said "hey, get away!". they went the other way down the trail. I watched and followed them around through the woods for 20 minutes, they seemed unconcerned that I was there. The male just had one thing on his mind and she just wanted to get away. Any way on to the birds, Field Sparrows Fox Sparrow 5 LINCOLN'S SPARROW 1 (it was singing!) Towhee 6 (all males) Brown Creeper 1 Hermit Thrush 2 RED-HEADED WOODPECKER (its head is more than half red now) woodpeckers-the other six species were all seen within fifty yards of the red-head and often times there were several species in the same view, such as pileated and sapsucker ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
