I was working at home on the computer when I saw your post just before 2 p.m. By 3 p.m. my wife and I had braved beltway traffic and saw the bird in Cameron Run across from the park and just downstream from the Eisenhower Avenue bridge. It was swimming slowly around with various Canadas but did not seem to be associating particularly with any of them. It got out of the water briefly at several points and one could see the black legs, absence of any bands and (Paul O'Brien saw this, not me) the absence of a clipped hind toe - indicative that this bird has not recently been in a waterfowl collection. When we arrived, Dan Eberly had already located the bird for several hours; he saw it first by the putt-putt golf course. So where does it come from? Thanks again. Mike Bowen Bethesda MD D.H.
