Don't they know we have to get some sleep so we can get up before dawn to go birding??? -----Original Message----- From: Janet Millenson [mailto:janet@TWOCROWS.COM] Sent: Friday, February 01, 2002 6:10 PM To: MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM Subject: [MDOSPREY] Yard birds miscellany * Had a female Purple Finch at the sunflower feeder today, very easy to spot among the House Finches. * I think I'm the loser in an avian love triangle. My "tame" Pileated Woodpecker allowed me to get close to him (5 ft.) this afternoon for the first time in many days -- but only because the female PIWO was nowhere nearby. He seems to have hooked up with her this year (the two of them visit the yard together a lot) and is no longer quite so friendly as during the previous two winters, when I could frequently get within arm's length. Guess he worries she'll misinterpret things... * We're all supposed to enjoy the sounds of spring (or reasonable meteorological facsimile thereof), but the incessant tweetling of the titmice is getting on my nerves. As my husband put it, "Can't they learn any other notes?!!?" Admit it, folks, isn't birdsong sometimes annoying?
