Following are the rules for the use of MDOsprey. Please don't tell me that you are a newcomer and have never seen them before--this is a message that gets sent out to every new subscriber to the list. If you don't agree with the rules you are welcome to discuss them with me OFF the list. If that discussion still doesn't convince you then just ask and I will gladly give you a complete refund. Here are the rules: MDOsprey is a mailing list for the discussion of birds and birding in Maryland and the District of Columbia. All interested birders and nature enthusiasts are welcome! To post to the list, send your e-mail message to: MDOSPREY@home.ease.lsoft.com To send commands to the list, send your message to: LISTSERV@home.ease.lsoft.com More on this topic later. Here are a few rules you should know about: 1) Please sign all of your messages with a signature block so people know who you are, where you live, and how they can get in touch with you. Most mailers allow you to specify one or more signature blocks which are then automatically appended to all messages you send. Here is an example of the signature block I use: ========================== Norm Saunders Colesville, Montgomery County, MD marshhawk@att.net ========================== 2) Please post reports about birding trips you have taken in Maryland and in DC. For all other locales please use common sense. There are many other fine lists available for all of our surrounding states and I don't want MDOsprey to become a clearinghouse for Middle Atlantic Coast bird reports. Limit out-of-area rare bird reports to first sightings only, along with information on where people should go on the Internet for the latest updates. 3) Other more generalized discussions about optics, field guides, or other general birding or nature topics are welcomed and encouraged. If you're not sure whether a topic is relevant or not, post it and see what kind of a response you get--we're all friends here. 4) You are welcome to post requests for birding info in places other than Maryland, but we ask that you request responses be addressed to your personal e-mail address. 5) Any discussion list will often have differing points of view expressed. This is fine and leads to some interesting exchanges. Do think long and hard before loosing a flame at someone that you disagree with, however. It really *IS* possible to express disagreement in a civilized, human manner. If you absolutely must post a nasty flame, please confine it to private e-mail. MDOsprey is privately sponsored and is not affiliated with any organization. If you have questions or comments, please send them to: MDOSPREY-REQUEST@home.ease.lsoft.com The messages sent to MDOsprey over the years have all been archived.
