I was counting birds in Garrett County yesterday (Saturday 2/9) and inadvertantly started focusing my attention on Pine and Hemlock stands. I found a N. SAW-WHET OWL roosting about 80% of the way up a 60' tall Hemlock. The location will remain undisclosed !. This is my first W. MD Saw-whet ever found during the day and only my 6th ever seen without using radio-telemetry or nets and only my 3rd ever found entirely on my own. Later that evening I did some night owling and got a response from a BARRED OWL. Good Owling (and birding), J.B.
