We started off driving around southern Caroline County making our way to Smithville Community Lake. On the way we found 2 large flocks of American Pipits. The lake did not hold the hoped for Gadwall, but did have Hooded Mergansers. Next we headed to Beulah Landfill to meet Stan Arnold and Joan Decarli. We found the hoped for Glaucous easily with 2 minutes of arriving. An 1st year Iceland made 2 separate appearances during our stay. Next we headed to Cambridge where found a large raft of Canvasback and 3 Redhead (2 m and 1 f). American Wigeon, Surf Scoters, Common Goldeneyes, Long-tailed Ducks, and a White-winged Scoter were also present. We wandered over to Ragged Point Road west of Cambridge on the bay. There we found 6 Forester's Terns and a raft of Redhead. On the way home, Hans and I stopped along Rt. 309 to check for geese. Just south of the Rt. 309 pond, we found a Gree! nland race White-fronted Goose in a small flock (150) of Canada Geese. Hans made an excellent naked eye spot of the White-front as only it's head could be seen. It was a great way to end the day.
