A gull whose characteristics fit fine for an adult-winter THAYER'S GULL except that it appeared to have yellow eyes (Yes, we are aware that 10% of Thayer's Gull can have yellow eyes.) A gull whose characteristics fit fine for a first-winter HERRING GULL except it had a small rounded head; small, thin, all black bill; and the "punched-in-the-eye" look of a Lesser Black-backed Gull.
