Squealer is a whistling-duck, bluebill is a scaup, mallard is greenhead, etc. Pigwitch is a colloquial name for Pie-billed Grebe and Great Blue Herons are called blue cranes. Colloquial names vary throughout the range for a given species. These are just a few I am aware of through reports to the Bird Banding Laboratory. Does anyone know of any others?
