I was birding with my father once and he commented that, growing up in Alabama, he always called a towhee a joe-ree. I thought, "Well, towhee and joe-ree sound very similar, so I can see where he might call it that." Later, I was birding in Georgia and found out that the towhees there do say "joe-ree" instead of "towhee". I assume they do the same in Alabama.
