I actually saw the bird late Saturday afternoon, but could not tell whether it was a Pacific Loon or a Red-Throated. I was seeing something which looked to the untrained eye (mine) like a chin strap. I was certainly close enough, but the back lighting made for some interesting shadows. I photographed it and was able to look more at the extensive white on the cheeks up and including the eye. The next morning it was still there and I was able to look closely at the bill, which the day before had been open as if the bird were panting. The lower bill was slightly angled upwards. It was still there when I left this morning (Monday). The water is fairly shallow (6' - 11') there, which is the head of Mill Creek, off of Whitehall Bay just North of Greenbury point. I thought loons were deep water birds. For anyone who is interested, I can give you directions privately.
