I would recommend touring the King Ranch. The ranch has regular tours at a variety of prices. The tours can guarantee Tropical Parula and F. Pygmy Owl in the right seasons. We had 78 species in about 5 hours including great looks at Sprague's Pipit and Clay-colored Sparrow. The tour leader was very knowledgable and he frequently posts his tour sighting on Texbirds (usually "King Ranch birds".) The web site for the tours is http://www.king-ranch.com/tour_nature.htm. Another good web resource was the Texas birding trail maps http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/birdingtrails/maps.htm. We spent most of our time in the RGV. If you have any specific questions about locations of specific species I'd be glad to help. I've compiled a list of a dozen or so expected targets, and an additional dozen rarities, using the ABA guide of the Rio Grande Valley as my primary planning reference. Please respond off-line at the address below. Thanks!
