(This happens when a stream floods and cuts off an old meander, leaving the old section by itself. Sometimes there will be water in an old isolated meander, or oxbow, for a long time) In that sense, it would be a natural body of water, but I doubt we could call it a lake. It's actually still part of the stream or river that just isn't currently being used. Streams, for anyone who knows anything about them, are actually much wider than we think. Hydrologists consider a flood plain to be part of a river. This makes it more amazing that people want to build homes on them.
