Red-breasted Mergansers - best viewing was just at start of causeway looking back toward the jetty. There was a large flock there with lots of Bonaparte's Gulls. Oldsquaw & Common Goldeneye - best viewing was off the peir. They were maybe 100' off the end. Awesome views there. Greater Scaup flotilla was about 1/4 mile off shore between the pier and the end of the point. Also got in a brief boat trip on Smith's Creek up to mouth of the Potomac. Numerous Red-breasted Mergansers, Bonaparte's Gulls and Common Loons on the creek. Overhead, 2 bald eagles (1 adult, 1 juv.). Nolan W. Stokes The Petting Zoo 120 N.
