In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii An adult Lesser Black-backed Gull was on the cross-dike at Georgetown Reservoir again today. More interesting over the last 2 days has been watching some of the gulls pass their time by playing with an old, worn tennis ball. The most adventurous was a 2nd winter Herring Gull which put on a great show yesterday, flying up high with the ball in its mouth and repeatedly dropping the ball only to swoop down and catch it in mid-flight. If you think that isn't impressive, try catching a tennis ball in your mouth. It dropped the ball as well (more standard feeding technique used with shellfish I suppose), nearly hitting two Rock Doves one time and bombing a group of Ring-billed Gulls the next. The gulls were rather less adventurous with the ball today, a 1w Great Black-backed hogging the ball but only being able to think of rolling it repeatedly down one side of the dike.
