The weather was gorgeous which helped ease the fact that the birds were in short supply. We had fun looking for signs of breeding activity for the atlas. A Carolina Chickadee was found working hard to excavate a small hole. He would pop in and emerge with a bill full of "punky" wood and spit it out. The resident red-shoulders were not present but we had great scope views of the nest. Noteworthy were the fresh greens added on top of the sticks. Kingfishers were rattling around overhead and one settled in at Forbay Pond.
