We stopped for about an hour (8:30-9:30-ish)to enjoy the geese and looked very closely for rarities. The geese were right next to the road and we used the minibus as a blind. We did find one Ross Goose and one small form Canada Goose which we identified as a Richardson's (using Sibley)because of its small size ( 2-3 inches shorter than the Snow geese), its light breast, and its relatively flat head and small beak. It was the only Canada Goose in the flock. In Delaware at Cedar Swamp after 2 hours of searching on foot for the Dusky we saw an unidentified flycatcher-shaped-and-colored bird fly low across the road into the line of bushes (or the cornfield beyond it) while we were in the van on the way out. By the time we got out, it had disappeared and not a single bird could be found in that thicket or the cornfield. However we ended the day with a nice highlight: the Snowy Owl was near the end of Port Mahon Rd on a pile of crates and traps on the right of the road. Great views, up close, and in the scope! Just as we left Dover at 4 PM it started to rain.
