Kurt Gaskill first made mention of that bird in a post to the VA-Bird list on Nov. 11 and said, "This bird, which bears a slight passing resemblance to a blue phase Snow Goose, is a cross between a Canada Goose and some sort of domestic goose." Since then, it has fooled a more than a few folks. I took a photo of it on Jan. 26 in the Potomac River just south of Hunting Creek Bay and have posted it on my Yahoo Photos web site at http://photos.yahoo.com/paulasulli/ (It may be necessary to register with Yahoo to access this or any other Yahoo site.) It is not a great shot, but it might help to distinguish it from the goose seen on the Anacostia last week, and also demonstrate why it can be mistaken for a blue phase Snow Goose.
