I will try to get the rest of my documentation together and mailed within the next week. I have several photos, plus information from two sources on the three "forms" of Whooper Swan, including the black striped form possibly seen in Upper Marlboro. Most sources I've seen just illustrate the "Yellowneb" form. I believe that the bird was a closer match to the black striped form of Whooper than any of the possible variations of Bewick's Swan. I tend to concur with Marshall's post of January 20th that the bird, while perhaps not a "pure" Whooper, is not a Bewicks. Relatedly, when I visited Parker River NWR in Massachusetts in November, I was surprised to see Whooper Swans included on the refuge bird list as common. Unfortunately, I didn't see one of the swans in the park to compare to what was down here.
