Global warming, one last > nail in the coffin, may simply polish off the deed. That's it exactly. As the article pointed out: "Scientists have blamed the Baltimore oriole's gradual decline largely on the destruction of breeding habitat and forests both in North America, where the bird spends its summers, and in Central and South America, where it winters.... 'Climate change on top of fragmented habitat is the straw that breaks the camel's back,' said Patricia Glick, an expert on climate change with the National Wildlife Federation." We won't have to worry about changing our state bird to the Keelbilled Toucan or Greenwinged Macaw or some other tropical species. When the orioles are gone they won't be replaced by tropical birds ... all that will be left in our paved-over state will be the Rock Dove and the House Sparrow. :-( Sherry ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
