The ponds are visible from the road. There is no need at all=20 to enter the property. The road is heavily traveled, but there are some nic= e=20 wide grassy shoulders. On a nice day you need not even park in view of the=20 ponds and just walk the roads. This will give you a better chanch for open=20 gield birds like Horned Lark, American Pipit, and in season, Vesper Sparrow.= =20 A few years back I had a springtime fly-by Upland Sandpiper. Everything is=20 (for me) in binocular range. I suspect walking closer would just spook the=20 birds. Bonnie Ott wrote: "The University of Maryland Central Farm is PRIVATE PROPERTY!!! However, not all publicly owned= =20 lands are automatically open to the public because of the use of the=20 property. The Central Farms have research projects which they do not want=20 disturbed. They also have managed hunts, but I do not see how this is any=20 different from birding a DNR Wildlife Management Area where hunts are=20 "unmanaged". =20 I get up that way maybe twice a year, but would like to use that time more=20 effectively. If I knew who, specifically, to ask for a letter of permission= =20 it would be helpful. An inquiring mind needs to know ;-) Good Birding!
