It was very easy to take the train there, walk along the river for a couple of stations, and return to London on the train. The UseNet list uk.rec.birdwatching can be a good source. Also, http://www.travelbritain.com/recreation/Birdwatching.html (especially the Birding by Public Transport) is good. Well be on a fourteen day trip with Elderhostel. One thing they do is to build in free time so participants can do other things they might like. We would hope to do a bit of birding but know absolutely nothing about how to go about this. Perhaps you all can help us. Also, please mention any guides that we might use. Thank you very much.
