Has anyone in any state in the eastern US seen the "Whooper" (hybrid Whooper?) Swan that spent several months on Schoolhouse Pond in Upper Marlboro, Maryland last winter. It was first reported in January 2001 and was last reported just before March 24, 2001. A photo of this bird is published on the web on Steve Sanford's web site at ... http://www.geocities.com/bfbooby/MiscPix1.html In preparing for the MD/DC Records Committee's review of this bird, we have been in touch with Dr. Bill Sladen with the Environmental Studies programs at the Arlie Center in Warrenton, Virginia. He is working with Dr. Patrick Gillevet at George Mason University in Virginia on swan taxonomy. They would be very interested in learning more about the whereabouts of this bird. If anyone has seen this bird since it left Upper Marlboro, MD, please let me know. I'd appreciate it if some subscribers could forward this message to other local listsevers (like Virginia, Delaware, NJ, etc.) Thanks in advance.
