They're not getting along very well either -- if one gets too close to another, there is a scuffle--must be migrants who aren't acquainted . Finally heard the Great Horned Owl pair duetting at dawn. They were actively calling in December and stopped after the first of the year (or at least I no longer heard them). They've been regular nesters around here for years -- must go searching for the nest tree. A Carolina Wren is incubating eggs in what I hoped was not a dummy nest -- my first confirmed breeding atlas bird. House Finches are hanging around the Blue Spruce -- probably nesting in their already too. Purple Finches (2 males) at the feeders yesterday and the Red-breasted Nuthatch pair is still visiting daily. The Pine Warbler appears at any window on the west side of my house if he sees someone inside, fluttering at the window. A real character. Bluebirds are singing loudly both in the morning and again at dusk. The boxes are ready and waiting. Looks like a lovely day out there. //////// Arlene Ripley | || Calvert County, MD | 0 || aripley@nestbox.com | || http://www.nestbox.com || ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
