In the same area, 2 Osprey were building a nest on a big green sign in the water near the restaurant, while a third Osprey tried to nose in on the territory. A flock of Red-breasted Mergansers was also briefly present before flying away down river. A lone Bonaparte's Gull was at Kingman Lake. Horned Grebes were on the Potomac River off of Gravelly Point and on the Anacostia River at Anacostia Park. The various stages of plumage were interesting to see. Another may have been at Georgetown Reservoir this morning, but it was too far away for me to tell for sure. The Anacostia Wetlands was wet for a change and hosted 8 Common Snipe. At Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, an Osprey, several Tree Swallows, and 3 American Wigeon could be seen from the end of the boardwalk as high tide approached. Finally, a Blue-winged Teal joined growing numbers of Wood Ducks at the Chain Bridge pond. Go Kent State!
