No sign of the Great Cormorant or Bonaparte's Gulls, but here's what I saw: 1 HORNED GREBE - middle of the Potomac, halfway up Hains. 150 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS - looks like #'s have increased significantly from yesterday. Most were on the seawall of the Navy Yard. Almost all were adults, and several had really bright orange throat pouches lined with bright blue on the insides of their mouths - quite striking. 17 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS - middle of the Potomac, seen from Lady Bird Johnson park 2 LESSER SCAUP - in the Potomac off Hains 2 TURKEY VULTURES - I don't see them along the Anacostia very often 2 PEREGRINES - the pair is still hanging out on or near the RR bridge. I watched the 2 of them engage in several brief aerial displays. I wonder if this behavior is part of pair bonding prior to nesting. 1 COMMON SNIPE - Anacostia Wetlands 1 GLAUCOUS GULL - on the southenmost mudflat of Anacostia River Park, but all the gulls flushed when an adult Bald Eagle flew in, and the gull went over the Navy Yard. I think it then went further downriver. It was a 1st winter bird. 1 CASPIAN TERN - flying up the Anacostia. On Friday (3/22) there was a small flock of 7 AMERICAN WIGEON off Gravelly Point, as well as a GREATER SCAUP in with a few RING-NECKED DUCKS.
