Highlights for the atlas were: - Red-shouldered Hawk on a nest, with mate bringing food. - Canada Goose on a nest (seems early based on Yellow Book). - Pair of Pileated Woodpeckers excavating a nest. - A male Red-bellied Woodpecker excavating. Birds also seen, mostly around Chain Bridge, include: Pied-billed Grebe Double-crested Cormorant (many going up and down the river) Wood Duck Blue-winged Teal (4 males) Northern Shoveler (first seen 5 weeks ago, now in breeding plumage) Ring-necked Duck Hooded Merganser Common Snipe Eastern Phoebe Northern Rough-winged Swallows Golden-crowned Kinglet Winter Wren Field Sparrows John Hubbell Chevy Chase, MD ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
