I was home the day the chicks hatched and it was frightening to watch them run faithfully after their parents, no matter where they went... including across the road. Their little bodies would drop down between clumps of lawn grass and they would struggle for minutes to get back out. Later that day, there was a distinct puff of down embedded in the road pavement... Sorry do not recall how many eggs it contained. however they hatched but two of the young birds were killed on the road as the nest was near a busy road.
