One old, two-story house looked promising but it was tucked inside the edge of a woods, overgrown with lots of vines and had saplings coming up through the rickety porch floorboards. We had to gingerly make our way across the treacherous porch and up the rotting staircase to the second floor. In the shadows at the top landing, four white figures met us face to face with wings outstretched, bodies rocking back and forth, hoooooing and hissssing emanating from their ghost-like forms. They were black vulture chicks, guarding their nest against the human giants. Dana said the stories about ghosts may have originated from similar encounters long ago.
