Smallwood MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi Everyone, Enjoyed some birding around the Monocacy River Aqueduct on the C & O Canal on Sunday. A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was seen in the Sycamores bordering the Monocacy/Potomac Rivers on the Montgomery County side. A HERMIT THRUSH was seen and heard around the same location. Fort Smallwood has been good not only for raptors which Sue Ricciardi has listed on MDOSPREY, but open groves of pines have PINE WARBLERS (great looks feeding on the ground). Also seen have been BROWN CREEPERS, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES and SAVANNAH SPARROWS. The hawk watch is located by the beach along the Bay, so small flocks of BONAPARTE'S GULLS have been seen moving up the Bay. Included among the ducks resting on the Bay have been up to 50 HORNED GREBES and RUDDY DUCKS in various stages of breeding plumage. A nearby pond has had good views of several hundred CANVASBACK and LESSER SCAUP.
