As many are aware (but some are not) the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska is the heart of the breeding grounds for many of the migrating species we know and love. I am asking that you participate in a rally on Capitol Hill, Wednesday, April 10, to hammer home a point and show support for protecting the breeding grounds for over 100 bird species and many mammals. Protecting the Arctic is key to protecting many species of mammals including Polar Bears, Caribou, Musk Oxen, AND more than 100 BIRD SPECIES from four continents utilize the coastal plain during migration. Here is a link to see which of your favorite species depend on the refuge listed by FLYWAY. http://www.protectthearctic.com/migrate.asp This link is provided by the National Audubon Society. As birders, and there are many of us, we need to speak up or chirp up for our feathered friends. Please consider joining me and many others at a rally next week at the Capitol to tell the Senate how we feel. The good news is that our MD Senators know how to vote on this issue - no need to lobby them, but we can thank them for voting the right way and supporting this cause afterwards. Many organizations are bringing their members and staffs to this rally. The details on the rally below. Bring yourself, a spouse, a friend, the children in your life, bring your binoculars and birding hats too! Thank you for your attention.
