Edwards; 1989, IBSN:911882-11-1 Self-published by the author, second edition 1989. My wife & I used this field guide last year whilst on holiday in Belize and found it better than (and more updated!!) than Peterson's or any other field guides of Central & Caribbean America, for that matter! Don't leave the USA without this book if you are serious about birds & Belize. -BELIZE Handbook (a Moon Travel Handbook) by Chicki Mallan & Patti Lange; November 1999; 4th edition. ISBN:1-56691-137-0 published by Moon Travel Handbooks. Indispensable, this guide offers information on everything from customs to the local grocers on Ambergis Caye. Speaking of which...we stayed on Caye Caulker and found it a bit rustic yet loads friendlier than the (overpriced) swanky resorts on Ambergis Caye. Unless you are into that sort of thing, we found Ambergis much too crass and commercialized, and one of the reasons we love most of Belize is that it has not been over-Americanized aka Costa Rica, which is like going to visit a giant park with way too many tourists and birders!!! Just our take on C. America. Belize, for the most part, has not been spoiled by snobbish eco-tourism and we loved mixing with the locals.
