Plenty of courtship display, nesting behavior. Blue Jay seen carrying nesting material that looked like bark (3 different times). White-breasted Nuthatches sharing food (which one then promptly stored in the tree's bark). Northern Cardinals sharing food. Northern Flickers sitting side-by-side on tree limb (after male called, drummed), doing head-bobbing. Pair of Carolina Wrens hanging out together, with one bobbing its head up and down (is that some sort of courtship display?). Last weekend, one C. Wren seen carrying nesting material, several times. Plus, 1 male American Goldfinch with completed molt; two nearly so; several females also nearly complete; one little fella with still quite a bit to go. Had 25 species by 7:30am (counting 4 Double-crested Cormorants flying by in the distance); not bad for the small urban yard. Much activity, much song, much fun! Ah, spring.... ============ Frank Powers Glen Echo, MD Montgomery County mattfp@aol.com ============ ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
