Instead of airplanes, this field now backgrounds other flights. Park outside the gate. It is a short walk to the field. In addition, did you hike the nature trail along the river where the trail winds to an observation tower? This tower, I believe was built by a group of Boy Scouts some years back. Perhaps someone else can add to this. I have found this to be a good place for river observation...summer and winter, all be it a narrow climb up when dragging a scope and a back pack. Since young boys built it, I thought perhaps that was the reason the stairs were so narrow.
