I think every bit of public land that is not in a protected status should be protected now. No more forest harvests in National Forests, no more subsidized grazing out west and no more mining or drilling on public lands. I am just sick of it. But, I am extremely biased, and I used to be a political appointee at the Dept. of the Interior under Pres. Clinton. Even Clinton was not green enough for me, but you have to take your champions where you find them. Keep the faith on the Energy Bill. We are working like maniacs this week and there is still a lot of hope. -----Original Message----- From: Jerry and Laura Tarbell [mailto:birdersforever@EROLS.COM] Sent: Friday, April 12, 2002 11:47 AM To: MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM Subject: Re: [MDOSPREY] A Naturalist's View Denise, Couldn't agree with you more. I used the abbreviation simply to save space. I don't like to sound defeatist about things but I think the timing of the fate of the Refuge is simply a matter of history. The U.S. is desperate to grasp at straws that will rid it of the middle-eastern menace we are under. Every educated person knows that there isn't much oil there to be had, but W needs to make it look like he's solving problems. His needs will most likely be the downfall of a nice peice of our global environment. I hope you are right. It needs to be stopped. I have solutions to the problem of Alaskan politics, but nobody would put up with it. It has to do with extending the refuge south a few thousand miles. 49 states and a refuge sound nice?
